Sephora recently released a new eyeliner, with an on-trend cushion delivery system. Sephora Collection Cushion Glossy Eyeliner, $18 includes a pot of cushion liner and a full size angled liner brush. The Classic Must Have Angled Liner Brush #90 retails for $14, so it’s seems like a good deal up front.
First Impression: Initial application leaves a rich, black, inky line – exactly what you would expect from a liquid liner product. It goes on smooth and is completely opaque. If you can manage a cat eye in a single swipe, and get the second eye done swiftly, then you’re all set.
Can’t get your eyeliner on in 60 seconds, you say? That’s where things get dicey – especially if you err on the side of “Fuck it- I’m raccoon.” This liner leaves no room for error, touch ups, reapplication, or letting the liner dry on the brush.
This liner dries in seconds, leaving the brush unusable and stiff – it’s actually painful to try to use the liner brush once the product has dried on.
If you try to touch up your line, it removes the original product, rather than allowing for adjustment. Below, you can see what happened when I tried to go over my line.
If you attempt to re-dip, the dried brush delivers only a light line. So unless you work really quickly, you’ll have to clean the brush between eyes.
I would have kept this product only for the brush, but I already own Anastasia Angled Cut Brush, Small #15, which is a bit more flexible and better performing.
Bottom Line: Nice try Sephora, but this liner needs serious improvement.
