Your new drugstore impulse purchase: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Balms

There are very few drugstore items in my cosmetic collection, so in order to make the cut, it better be good. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Balms are an easy to apply, easy on the wallet item that I don’t feel guilty buying. They run about $9 full price, but sometime go on sale for around $6.

They come in 3 formulas- Stain, Matte, and Laquer.

First up is ColorBurst Balm Stain in Smitten. This one is my favorite formula- it glides on easily, has a moisturizing feel, and wears off to an even stain. The pencil shape makes application super easy, so I reach for this one often when I’m at work or on the go.

Next is ColorBurst Lacquer Balm in Provocateur. Rich in pigment, the slippery high gloss formula makes this one a little more tricky to apply. I usually dab a little in the center of my lip and blend outward with a fingertip.

Finally, we have ColorBurst Matte Balm in Ellusive. I don’t usually go for matte lipstick, but it was on sale so I didn’t have much to lose. Turns out, I really like it for summer when I have a bit of a tan. The matte formula will highlight any dry patches, so make sure your lips are in good shape. It does impart moisture while you wear it, so it actually feels pretty comfortable.

Bottom Line: These lip pencils aren’t breaking records or winning awards. But they are nice and they’re affordable. It’s a great way to try a color or finish you might not have otherwise considered. All in all, they’re a good deal and you can collect em all without feeling (too) guilty.

Serving Suggestion: Pair Ellusive with a shimmering peach blush like NARS Orgasm for a pretty summer look.
