Splurge or Save? Liquid Eyeliner

Welcome to a new mini-series where I will compare budget beauty brands with high end, more expensive options.

Today we are looking at felt-tip liquid eyeliner, a must for the perfect winged eye.

The Contenders:IMG_1755

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Dark Brown, $20

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Black, $19

ULTA Precision Liquid Liner in Espresso and Black, $9

The Match!

Stila Stay All Day: This little guy has become a staple in my eye makeup wardrobe since he arrived on the scene. The tip is just flexible enough to create a wing, and allows the right amount of product to glide on to the lids. As the name promises, it stays all day. Available in an impressive 15 colors, you’re sure to find one that suits you.

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner: There is no one in my life who loves a serious cat eye more than my sister. Which ink black liner does she snatch out of my makeup drawer? This one. While not waterproof, it stays put nicely throughout the day, assuming you don’t get it wet. What’s really unique about this liner, however; is it’s brush tip. Rather than a traditional marker tip, it’s actually a tiny, tapered brush that allows for tremendous control. If you love the art of eyeliner, this “Kat” eye is a must.

Ulta Precision Liquid Liner: I’ll give credit where credit is due- this liner lives up to its name in terms of precision. The felt tip is stiff, offering only a fine line of color. Press down, and you may end up with an uneven line. The tip tends to dry during use, and sometimes the “felt” comes off the brush. I was mostly disappointed to see that the espresso color changed during the day, shifting from a dark brown to a charcoal grey.

And the winner is……

The champion takes the crown! The higher end liquid liners are totally worth $9 or $10 extra (we’ll save on something else, I promise!).
